I started reading Guy Kawasaki's book, Enchantment, yesterday. I'm already halfway through and ready to recommend it to every sales and marketing person that I know.
I was a little turned off when I started reading it because he might be the biggest Apple fanboy ever. (Disclosure: I'm a PC.) It's understandable because of his history with the company. While I may not agree, I always appreciate brand evangelists because it's my job to cultivate them! With simple, practical tips to increase the chances and opportunity for enchanting clients and prospects, he has included short stories from industry leaders, colleagues, and other interesting people. Kawasaki focuses on building trust and likability in an ethical way, not only enriching your skills as a marketer, as a person. I'm looking forward to the remainder of the book, including How-to chapters about enchanting your external as well as internal audiences. I'm especially looking forward to the final chapter, "How to Resist Enchantment." I can definitely appreciate an author willing to present the other side. What books do you recommend?

I've been getting frustrated lately. It seems that the only times I come up with what I feel are great ideas, are totally inconvenient times. As I lie in bed, contemplating my day and the day ahead of me, my mind floats around aimlessly. When I begin to fall asleep, suddenly I'm hit with a great idea for a blog post or a perfect email subject line. I have a notepad and pen next to my bed for this occasion, but what about when I'm in the shower? Or driving? The idea is lost in space! Poof! Genius is dissolving because I don't have time to flesh out the idea and there's nothing I can do about it. The last time this happened, I drifted back to sleep wondering if this happens to other people and what solutions they have for catching those brilliant ideas and the cloud of ideas that follow them... Does it happen to you? Where do you get "stuck" with your great ideas? Many years ago, I had a blog where I documented my mid-twenties... Who I am today was formed during those years as a grumpy, Diet Coke addicted late sleeper who loved to write and had more friends than she could keep up with. I have evolved into a coffee addicted, night owl who fell in love with research and can't seem to stop reading.
That blog was like a gym for my brain. I went every day and exercised my writing muscles, flexed and felt the burn. It's been too long since I've gotten the rush of putting my thoughts out there, so I'm going to try it again. This time, there will be less talk about beer, dogs and boys, and more talk about social media, sales techniques, customer service, and other ideas that wake me up in the middle of the night. |
AuthorSo, I've given you the hard stuff throughout the rest of this site. Here's where I get on my soapbox and tell you what I think about the things that go on in my world... Archives
